Superior Craftsmanship
Each slider piece is CNC machined from a single piece of stainless steel. The magnet bores are held to very tight tolerances to provide a secure press fit without any adhesives. The final magnet depth is set to .65mm from the top surface using purpose-built jigs and fixtures.
In this version of the Micro Stackable Slider, we took our original Stainless Steel Micro through a two-stage multi-day tumbling process that removes 99% of the tool marks and rounds every edge to make them smoother. This process results in a very smooth gliding surface with an almost polished feel. The look of this Tumbled Stainless Micro has a much more matte finish than the original Stainless Micro.
Excellence by Design
The original Brass Micro was the product of my desire to explore some new (to me anyway) machining approaches and was an instant hit. This newer stainless steel version is due to the many requests we have received to create The Micro in a non-patina metal. We retained the same overall dimensions, but unlike the brass version, we kept the outside smooth to show off the character of the stainless steel.
I must admit to being skeptical about stainless steel as a sliding surface, but I'm a believer now. I wouldn't sell it if I didn't like it, so here's what I like:
- It’s tiny! I can carry the 2-piece in my pocket and not even notice it.
- It rotates in ways 6x2 and 8x2 magnet configurations don't.
- It is fun to play with 2, 3, or 4 slider pieces. But even 4 pieces fits in a cube less than 1" square.
- Unique to the stainless version:
- Stays much cleaner than the brass version
- Makes a different sound than brass... it is more pleasing to me.
- The sides are smooth and untextured, as some have requested.
- For people who have aversions or allergies to brass, problem solved!
