Robertson Brass Magnetic Slider

The Bruce Charles Designs Robertson magnetic slider introduces a totally new and unique slider for your enjoyment.

**NEW!! Effective 3/11/24: We have made some changes to all of the Robertson magnetic sliders. We switched from a 5mm diameter magnet to a 6mm diameter magnet of N52 grade, which our testing has shown provides a better experience.

Features:

  • Double-sided slider for two different slider experiences in one.
  • Symmetrical design allows for flipping one slider on top of another.
  • Magnet strength: Medium-strong on the strong side
  • Magnet configuration: 3 x 2
  • Magnet Type: 6mm diameter x 3.5mm length N52 grade
  • Dimensions: 31 x 49 x 11mm
  • Weight: 2.1 oz
  • Recommended for ages 16+
  • Proudly made in Dallas Tx, USA.

Superior Craftsmanship

The one piece body is CNC machined from a single piece of brass. The magnet bores are held to very tight tolerances to provide a secure press fit without any adhesives. The final magnet depth is set to precisely .8mm from the top surface for the strong side of the magnets using purpose-built jigs and fixtures.

Sliding surfaces intentionally have toolmarks, which after break-in will provide a wonderfully smooth sliding surface.

I decided that the overall design is so delightfully minimalistic that I didn’t want to put our logo on it. The only mark is a subtle “+” to indicate the strong side of the slider. So we’ll just rely on word of mouth when your friends ask you “Where did you get that!?” We know you’re good for it.

Excellence by Design

The Robertson is the result of a long design and redesign process that ran into a dead end. I was about to give up altogether. But before I abandoned the machining setup, I decided to try something totally different: A fidget slider with exposed magnets on both sides for symmetrical functionality. As soon as I tried the first one I knew I had stumbled onto something unique and enjoyable.

First, it was smooth. I mean SMOOTH. In fact, you could make it bold and throw in an extra “O” and that still doesn’t capture how smooth it was. So little brass is touching during sliding and rotation that it feels like a precision bearing.

Second, it was light and slim. At 11mm, it’s less than ⅔ the thickness of the Lowrey. If you prefer older measurement systems, it’s less than half an inch thick. I’m not sure how many barleycorns that is. See why metric is awesome?

Third, the exposed magnets on both sides enables two things:

  • The magnet depths are set differently on the two sides so there is a strong side and a weak side. You can change between strong and weak just by moving one slider to the back or front and using the other side magnets. On the strong side, marked with a “+”, the magnets are set to .8mm from the surface while they are 1.2mm from the surface on the opposite side.
  • The Robertson can do flips if you hold it JUST right.

Fourth, it is unique in its skeletonized design. This creates a slider that is visually engaging, and as a nice side effect, it also means it is very light! It’s actually lighter than our aluminum/brass Lowrey! But the mass is out near the edges, as are the magnets, so the inertia is there for laddering moves.

A Gift to be Cherished

Presentation makes a lasting impact. Take delight in receiving and opening your Robertson box and packaging or enjoy watching someone you love unpack the gift box and realize this is no ordinary gift!

My new favorite!

I am a self proclaimed fidget toy connoisseur and this slider is my new favorite! I am autistic woman with ADHD and I am constantly fidgeting. I have an entire collection of fidget toys; I literally have tried them all! This slider scratches all my stimming itches. It’s very high quality, magnets are strong, and the patterns you can create in combination with the crisp clicking is very satisfying! It’s sleek and fits discreetly in a pocket. Worth the price!

Unbelievably great slider. I have not put it down since I received it. If I were going to do anything different I would make it a little bit smaller. Not much. Maybe a millimeter off each corner off each side I mean, but even the size it is it is just ridiculously fun. Do yourself a favor and buy one or two sets because you can stack them!

It feels nice sliding in my hand. The magnets are firm and strong but not too strong, which is good.
When my hand gets a little bit sweaty, it affects the friction of the fidget a little bit. Also the friction changes after a week or so of use. I suggest using a different material.

The only negative side is that it's really pricey.

By some accident, I got an aluminum Lowrey slider instead of the Robertson. I contacted the owner Bill and so he sent me the Robertson as well. So now I can review 2 sliders!

I have some cheap sliders from Amazon and this was my first time getting something higher quality. I haven't touched any of those sliders ever since the Lowrey arrived!

The Lowrey has great ergonomics, tactile to the touch, and the aesthetic is minimalist and clean. The magnets are a shade weak. If they were stronger, I would def buy it in titanium.

The Robertson first impressions: weak side is reminiscent of how the Lowrey plays and strong side is wonderful and crisp. The hollow frame, slim thickness, and wider/longer dimensions create a unique style of play.

Two great products at appropriate price points with excellent customer service.

Great Quality, Excelent service going above and beyond. I love the 2 different magnet strengths. Allowing for a stronger or weaker tactile feel with the fidget. Can't wait to get some 3D printed inserts designed and made to press fit into the cutouts to give it a new look and possibly some new fidget features.

This is a very unique piece. I'm instantly in love. I'm new to the fidget world but after only owning a few other higher quality pieces, I can safely say this one is quality. I love the magnet strength variance between the two sides.

The only sticking point is the learning curve and potential to pinch your skin on this one. For this reason, I'm starting out using the weaker magnets. If you want an interesting and unique piece, this is a must have.

Update: took only a day or two of light use to mitigate the pinching issue. What a fun slider! Quickly becoming a favorite.

Wow I can't believe how fast it got here. I am impressed by the quality and uniqueness of this slider. It's really crafted well. I also like the two different magnet strengths on both sides. It has a nice weight. Be warned, it takes some getting used to since the hollow design gives it a different action, but a welcome change. 100% recommend. The seller is great!

It's nice and it's very sturdy, but as other reviews have mentioned the flush machining means it pinches your hands. I mean it's actually to the point of being so painful that I've already stopped playing with it.
